Hope I am ok to post this.

Some of you know Hope had to have an emergency section last wednesday due to profuse bleeding , She was about 5-6 days early.

There was a little boy  4.5 oz and  a little girl 5.5oz . The little boy passed away 2 days later sadly, the little girl " Abbey" is till going strong. Her weight dropped from 5.5 to 4.25 in 24 hours, but she is although still very small now back to 5 oz today. She will be 6 days tonight. I am praying  she makes it now.

Hope now finally has some milk but still not a lot. The puppy sucks away for quite reasonable intervals so she is definately getting fed but I think not as much as she should be from her mother.  I guess you need the demand also to get it to come in.  I have been giving her a top up every 2 hours with a bottle using SMA Gold which she seems fine on.

My e-mail account was hacked so can't access it but have posted in Foo section the details.

Glad to hear your lil girl is doing well. I really would buy some Welpi though instead of SMA Gold, she needs all the help she can get, and feeding the right food is very important. You wouldn't give your baby dog milk, now would you?

Hi there,

Thanks for your input :-))

I have Whelpi and a couple of the other dog milks  have in but it was a few experienced breeders in my breed that recommended the SMA Gold over the others , it is already made up.  She is doing well on it and it is only a top up.

Hi Blue,

Really hope the little one continues to improve - this must have been very traumatic for you and of course poor Mum :(   Personally I know of single puppies who have done very well feeding from mums that appear to have very little milk - because the puppy has no competition for it she should probably get plenty.  If supplementing, I'd use tinned Carnation Milk - heard some bad reports about various milk substitutes but each to their own.

Wishing you and the little one all the best anyway.

Regards, Teri ;)

Thanks Teri, :-)

I was using the carnation milk with boiling water for the first 48-72 hours to rehydrate her and It seemed to work quite well also.  My freind hand read a litter of 4 perfectly on SMA Gold, and funnily it was the first think my own vet said to use, he never even recommended a dog one.  Suprising really.

If it means dancing through hopes then so be it ;-)

Hi Pam,
so sorry to hear you lost a puppy but glad that the little girl is holding on and hopefully getting stronger all the time. :)

Give Hope a gentle cuddle from me, I hope she's recovering well.

Thanks Kath, much appriciated.  Since I change my user name a while back I think folks forget who I am :-(

They become so special so quickly the little ones.  The is Hopes one and only girl.

Hugs been giving to Hope , she is a lot better today.

Speak soon, back to feeding
