Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Food for CKCS puppy

Hi

I'm new to this forum, so please be gentle with me!  I'm getting a CKCS puppy after Christmas and wondered what other CKCS owners consider to be the best food and why?  I have read many books and also many posts on this forum about different foods and just wanted opinions from CKCS owners rather than puppy owners in general.

Many thanks

The best food for at least the first couple of weeks after bringing your puppy home is the same as the breeder has been feeding it. It's a KC requirement that new owners are given a diet sheet with their puppy, so follow that carefully. You may well decide to keep the puppy on the same food anyway. CKCS have a reputation for being fussy feeders, so don't fall into the trap of offering it lots of variety if it turns its nose up at a meal! Good luck - they're a very nice breed and I'm sure you'll have a great life with it.

Cavaliers fall into two camps the piggy eat everything & anything & the I can't possibly  eat all that

I have three pigs & one fussy eater. They are fed complete plus organic cooked chicken(just cooked three & bagged it up into daily amounts for freezing)

Even my fussy eater will eventually eat all his food & then he gets a treat

It has been suggested that putting food on a flat plate helps fussy eaters by very experienced cavalier people,

Continue feeding what your puppies breeder fed him/her & if you want to chnage do it gradually over two weeks. I always feed small meals to my cavaliers so that i can gauge how much they will eat in one go

It's a lot different from feeding my GSDs & BCs who were as a whole gannets

Thank you.

I was intending to stick to whatever the breeder was already feeding her on, but just wondered if anyone had found any particular brand of food better than others.  I've noticed from other messages on the forum that in some small dogs certain brands seem to make their poo quite loose etc.  I'll see what she's on when we pick her up and keep an eye on her for a few weeks.  Thanks again.

My ckcs was very fussy until I tried her on Naturediet. It is a hassle because it isn't easy to find and it's quite heavy to carry home if you are on foot, but she has eaten it now for about six months and still loves it, so it's worth it. It's also the only non-dry food I have come across that isn't smelly and I believe it doesn't have any added chemicals etc. I know they do a puppy version and they have got a website - www.naturediet.co.uk. Also no problem ever with poo : )
