Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Getting on a waiting list

I have contacted several breeders, been to shows, researched a breed for 2 years yet i still cannot get nto a waiting list for a show quality Akita Inu (Japanese Type) Bitch. It seems that anyone who wasn't in teh breed 10 years ago is not worthy of owning one now.

Does anyone have any pointer on how to get on to a waiting list? I have tried everything from talking to breeders at shows to using the search option on here. Although i dont think that any good breeder should need to advertise on a website such as this, they should have enough of a good reputation by word of mouth, i had no other choice.

I am getting desperate now, wanting to get into the ring by summer 2006 with my new pup.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Are they actually not happy to put you on a list or is it htat there are too many people ahead of you on their list for the puppies available.  If it is the latter case all you can do is choose the breeder you really want to go with and wait.  Book with just one breeder and ask him/her to let their freinds keep you in mind should they have a cancelation etc.  that way you will be taken seriously, as in numerically small breeds people who try to book with lost of people tend to be viewed as timnewasters.

If they won't consider you at all is there perhaps a reason they could possibly see you as unsuitable.  I am not being unkind, but maybe your family circumstances, work commitments, accomodation, other dogs owbed might not make you the ideal owner when they can afford to be fussy?

I dont know much about Akitas, but in my breeds bitches are much more 'in demand' than dogs. Perhaps if you were prepared to have a dog pup you may have more of a chance of getting a quality pup?

Have you joined the Akita Inu Club? That way you would get to know about all serious breeders. There are not that many in the country yet & if breeders prefer their puppies to go to people they know or other experienced owners you can hardly blame them. We don't know why you are finding it difficult, if it's just that there aren't the puppies around then you will just have to be patient. If breeders only breed once a year and already have a big waiting list they probably don't think it realistic to put people on a waiting list for 2 yrs hence. If, for some reason, breeders don't feel you are suitable perhaps you should give their reasons for that some thought.
