Hello

I read a past post by you about your Staff that had nasal problems making noises as if her nasal passages are blocked

My Staff seems to be having the same thing, it started about two weeks ago she is only 6mths old.

Aspergillus was mentioned...did you ever find out from your vet what was wrong with your dog?????

Mine has been given the all clear but I am worried about her

Thank you

Hi blondiflops,
the problems with my staff started when she was 10 months old and the vets tried to treat the symptoms using antibiotics although she also developed stomach problems and suffered from chronic sickness and diarrhoea throughout this.  I queried aspergillus but that was ruled out - not sure why though.  Eventually after 7 months of getting nowhere and getting no answers the vet admitted she didn't know what was wrong and she was sent to the vet school in Edinburgh.

After putting a camera in her throat and doing a wash of her lungs (I think) they discovered that she had a high amount of stuff (might have been bacteria but I can't remember) that is associated with allergies or an infestation of parasites so she was treated with steroids and an intensive dose of a wormer.  Although she reacted quite badly to the steroids and developed a profuse nasal discharge it did seem to clear it up for a few weeks although she is now back to doing the snorty bronchitis sounding noises.  At the moment this does not distress her although she does still cough up a sticky phlegm like substance and even spat some out the other day.

Sorry this is of no help to you but I never found out exactly what the problem is and have stopped taking her to the vet in relation to this because I know they don't know what is wrong with her.  the only advice I can give you is to be persistent with the vet and I hope you are insured because i would have spent thousands of pounds on my wee pooch if I hadn't been covered by insurance.

when I spoke to her breeder she suggested that it might be hayfever but this was ruled out because the steroids would have sorted this but actually made it worse.

Thanks for getting back to me....luckily I am insured so hopefully it shouldnt be too much of a problem (she says) It doesnt seem to bother her that much more me really.

I'll keep on t the vet and hopefully we can come up with a miracullous cure!!!
