I've mailed here the other day about Rosei coughing and choking...we had her checked out by the vets and her heart and lungs were fine, throat was clear and no signs of kennel cough.
The vet said shes fit and healthy althought she did get 2 injections too kill any bugs she may or may not have.
The thing is that she is still making these awful noises and it sounds to me like it is her nose...I know this is disgucting but it sounds like she is hocking!! As if her nose is blocked. The vet has given her a clean bill of health but why is she still making these pig like noises..???
Could it be her adanoids?
Any ideas????
my staffs have just gone down with Kennel cough and the syptoms sound exactly as you have described, go back to your vet and get a second opinion!
she doesnt seem to cough all the time just in the morning and sometimes onces in the evening..
She has had a dose of antibiotics just in case so hopefully if there is something wong with her then that will help get rid!!!
Thanks we'll keep monitoring herx

Ive got 2 staffs and one has a shorter muzzle than the other. The one with the shorter muzzle seems to snore and snort more than the other one and I assumed it was because of him being shorter in the nose. Could this be the case with yours? I'd keep an eye on her though and take her back if she's still coughing.
Saying that Rose is quite short and stocky with a short muzzel whereas our other staff whos 7mths is very tall and lean more like a terrier and has a long snout...
You could be on to something there!!

hi blondiflops, my staff is a longer muzzled leggy type and doesnt have a particularly long soft palate. i was told that if it was a soft palate problem then it would have been present from the very beginning although she always was a bit of a loud snorer. Be persistent with your vet and maybe you will have more luck than i did. good luck.
You may have something else wrong, what we thought was kc, was in fact a piece of wood stuck in our dogs throat, we only realised when none of our other had any symptoms after a week! luckily our boy is fine now, and the anti biotics, stopped any infection from the wood! :). Its just as well to have a thorough check up, though vets get it wrong sometimes!

My 10 yr old staffy has made strange noises all his life. Not sure if it is the same thing, but he sort of sucks air in as if he can't quite get his breath and snorts at the same time, I say hes just "having a flap". I asked the vet about it when it first happened and he said it was more than likely the flap on his pallet, which some staffies have a problem with apparently.
When Fagin does it he tends to panic a bit, so as soon as I hear one coming on I stroke him and talk to him to calm him down, which reassurres him and it usually does the trick. Sometimes after he has done it he has an overwhelming urge to eat grass, as he did last week at 1. 30 in the morning! Sometimes they just occur for no reason, but other times it seems to happen when he has been chewing at his bone or more often than not his feet.
Hope this helps.
