Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Turkey tails?
- By rose [au] Date 29.11.04 03:28 UTC
About a month ago when i was walking my dogs  i got chatting with a woman who supplemented her dogs diets with turkey tails, she said they are excellent for the skin and coat and great for putting "body" on dogs, unfortunately i have not seen her again,so have no more info. Her dogs coats were almost blindingly shiny and they were in excellent condition.
Does anyone feed tails to their doggies,or have any info on them?

Turkey tails are full of fat.   Oils and fats make for supple skin and shiney coats.    Next time you buy a chicken "dissect" the tail - you will see what I mean.  Turkeys tails are just larger versions of the same.

Adding more oil to your dog's diets will have the same effect - it does not need to be turkey tails.

Blondiflops your'e starting to make my stomach hurt :D :D i must reinerate,my dogs do not eat heads,i know of some dog owners who do feed them,I couldnt handle the sight of them sucking out eye balls on the back lawn

I didnt even realise that turkey's even had tails  i cant imagine what they look like???

I'm always on the lookout for something new and different.I think i'm getting bored with the dogs food, not them ;)

I imagine they would be pure fat tho!

Are turkey tails like the parsons nose on a chicken, they sound awful,i bet my labs would love them though.

I found a butcher that got them in for me,through a friend of a friend  what a hassle. They look like a chicken thigh but very fatty, there is also heaps of meat on them! You would have to have a strong chewer as my little guys could not penetrate the outside, and it took my mastiffs a good 15-20 minutes to get through one
I wont bother with them again as they are too hard to get,but they would be great if a dog needs to gain weight :)
