Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Next 'Season'?

Well, we just came through our first 'Season' successfully with our GSD. Could those of you with 'entire' bitches, please let me know if I am correct in thinking that if I count 26 weeks from the LAST DAY of her 3 week Season, this will give me the approximate date of her next Season?

Many thanks,
Jayne

Were that it was that simple! I've had bitches who come into season at 5 month intervals right out to bitches who go 11 months. Usually they stabilise at the same kind of figure so after a couple or so you start to get the picture. The only time it varies is if you are taking her away on holiday because then you can guarantee she will come in just as you arrive at your destination!!!

Hi, I have 2 entire bitches and one comes into season every 6 months, the other comes into season at 6 months then next time she is 7 months etc. so it all depends on the individual bitch. Good luck Lynn

Being female, and this is how it is done in people, you count from the first day to the first day!

As has been said they vary. Anything over 4 months is considered normal! Any less and there is an imbalance of some sort with possibly cystic ovaries or non ovulation.

It is my understanding that GSDs often have short inter season durations. some coming in season as often as 4 monthly. In Welsh Springers it is often about 10 months.

Hi

You said approximately and this would be correct - give or take four or five months either side <g>

~~

John - you are going to have to change your holiday dates or tell your bitch that you are going a month before you really are!

Thank you for that suggestion Christine. I did tell her that I was going to sit her at the front gate with a FOR SALE notice on her but she doesn't believe me!

I'm waiting for my Yonnie/Pharaoh Hound to have her 2nd season.
She was born Sept '99 and had her first season Jan '00.
Pharaohs can go up to 18 months between seasons.
She'll probably decide next week when it's Cruft's !!!

Molly and her daughter Alice have a season about every 19 months. And yes Alice has come into season just in time for Crufts.
