Hopefully some owners of your proposed breeds will be along with some advice but if I were you I'd check with the Kennel club for the Breed Clubs of those breeds and seek their advice on the various specific characteristics of them and they're suitability to your personal circumstances.
HTH. Teri :)
Hi guest, I have Dogue De Bordeaux. I will tell you they are fantastic pets, but if you are thinking of buying one my advice would be to go and visit some very experienced breeders. They will be more than happy to let you meet some of there dogues and give lots of good advice with absolutly no obligation, because they love the breed so much. Please do your homework on this breed as they are not for the faint hearted.
GOOD LUCK
hi i also have dogue de bordauex s and love them dearly my boy is the most faithful loving dog ive ever owned, but they arnt a breed to take on lightly you need to do loads of homework and look into the lines because they are so different, make sure you buy from the lines you really like debb

DDB are a breed that has become VERY popular far too quickly and hence many people have jumped on the band wagon and produced poor quality pups in order to make a fast buck so as said before if you decide on one of these be very careful where from

I have to agree with the others DDB are fantastic pets but they are hard work :-)
They are very loyal and fantastic with children. They can be wary of strangers and are very protective to their owners.
Archer is right they have - quiete understandably :D not that I am biased - become popular and there are some so called breeders jumping in thinking they will make a fast buck. A good breeder should have great knowledge of the breed, welcome you to visit his home and see his stock. Show you the mother and father if possible, the KC froms of parents and pups and should have a copy of BOTH parents hip score sheets. Hip dysplasia can be a problem in any large breed. If a breeder brings in hs dogues on a lead and for any reason does not allow you to interact with the dog after a few minutes be wary of the temprement. This is a big dog and temperament is most important. As I said before they "can" be wary with stranges but there should be a difference between wary and aggressive with the owner present.
