Hi DD
To be honest I use Intelligent Horsemanship for all things vet related - the folk there are very knowlegable (they can be a little...erm...direct sometimes too!).
Intelligent Horsemanship and click on Discussion Group
You can also search the threads for previous advice.
Can you be any mroe specific with your query?
Hi Chloe, on our yard five of the horses have some sort of skin allergy, each symptom is slightly different and other horses that share fields with these five are not affected. Skin scrappings have been taken and we are now waiting for the results. Ringworm has been mentioned but how it got on the yard no body knows and some owners are running around like headless chickens because "ringworm" has been mentioned. I have looked on some web sites but they all say different things. My horse is not affected as he has his own field and is stabled separately and no body handles him except me but we all handle each others horses so surely if it was ringworm all the horses would have it by now.

Theres quite a few threads on it on the IH board - do a search.
You can post anonymously on there too - don't have to register or log in. Beware of nasty anons though - just ignore them :)
Thanks Chloe, have you ever had or seen ringworm ?? As i said all five horses have slightly different symptoms and no itching. I don't want to bring my two new ones in until it is known what this is.

Nope, never seen it - have you done a Google Images search?
I'm dabbling with a lovely coloured gelding called Arthur - always wanted a coloured gelding... am having to sit on my hands at the moment! :D :D
I'll try the google images, is he like Will yum ??

How are your 2 new ones doing - tell me more about them?

Hi DD,
Don't know if this site is of any use but I found a really good McTimoney chiro for one of my dogs from it? http://www.natural-animal-health.co.uk/index.htm
Hi Chloe,
They are still at the dealers yard as I haven't had the time to finish the new stable but hopefully will get that done this weekend. Mabel is about 3 a fudgy colour with a blue eye her mane is a mess so I am going to hog it. Darcy is about 16 2 bay irish hunter type about 4/5 years old, although there might be some warm blood in him, I am very interested in trying side saddle with him I think it would really suite him, but first I will have to see how much he knows and feed him up and improve his muscle tone before I think about putting saddles on his back.

Ringworm can spread like wild fire, but if some horses are unaffected its possible they have had it before in their lives & are now immune. This has happened here before now, when they caught it from som calves we bought in & the horses all got it!!! Except one manky little pony I was breaking which had had it about 5 years previous!
It's been confirmed that two of the horses have ringworm, three are unconclusive and six haven't. There are no new cases here for 4 weeks so vet says they probably won't get it. I have my new ones coming next weekend but my stables are away from the yard and I have my own field.
