My 10month old GSD pup has been diagnosed with the above after skin test. She has been prescribed anti biotics, Seleen shampoo and Aludex wash. The vet says this could be due to an imature immune system or the steroid treament that they prescribed for her dermatitus following Anal Gland problems. Is there anything I can give her to boost the immune system. Poor puppy I have never had a dog with so many health problems.

Is that the same as demodectic mange? If it is i once had a puppy with it, she had a small bald patch on her leg and one on the back of her neck, it took months before the hair grew back! she was given aludex. I have been told that Derbac bought from the chemist does the same, has anybody else heard this?

Yes it is the same.
I have a Bullmastiff with 'localized' demodecosis. He was given the same medication.
I was told that he would probably grow out of it. He hasn't but he doesn't get any more bald patches. His hair grows back and as soon as he gets 'stressed' he loses it again.
It hasn't had any effect on him other than he looks a bit 'mangy'.

We have discovered our 6 year westie has got demodectic mange.  The vet has prescribed 6 bottles of 50ml Aludex (once a week).  She also has antibiotics. After 6 weeks the vet will check with further scrapings to see if the mites are gone.  I am told that she could get mange again because her immune system has not  matured .  She has also been using steroids because of her itching and steroids apparently are not helpful for her immune system.  Any help?  How can she avoid further mange?
