Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / recovering pup-food ?

My pup is recovering from an infection,he is 5 and a half months,he has refused his JWB(which he has eaten as well as a cooked veg since we brought him home at 8 wks) and has just wanted to eat wet food,he will however chomp on a raw shin bone (supervised)and has had the odd bowl of cooked veggies, there aren't many pet food suppliers where we are and i am going to 'pets at home' to pick up some food later today,he is terribly thin as he refused to eat at all whilst ill,and i wondered which of the wet foods would give him the most goodness as i thought the protein in most of them looked quite low,he is due back at the surgery tomorrow for a check but in the meantime i wondered if anyone had any suggestions, many thanks in advance x

Hi Guest

I have an adult male who is recovering from major surgery.  He is currently being given, in very small portions
1 boned and de-skinned chicken (butcher boned it out for me)
about 1lb liver
6 eggs
This was cut up and put in the liquidiser a bit at a time with enough milk to prevent the motor overworking as he can only have very soft food at present.  All ingredients were bought from my butcher

Everthing is raw and he is being given about a few spoonfuls at a time.  This is a high, good quality protein food suitable for short term use while he is recovering.

Our local Pets at Home sell Nature Diet which has a really good reputation.  You could also try soaking his JWB in stock to make it more palatable.  He should start putting weight on slowly as he begins to eat more food.  Pets at Home also do their own brand of food now which I did try for a month but it became a case of either the pup goes or I do, back on Burns/Autarky and peace reigns again :)
