Hi
My name is Cathy and I have a most beautiful Bernese Mountain dog called Cara. We would like to find out how we could find her a stud so she could have a litter of puppies. She is pedigree and has been on heat twice, now she is 15 months old.
Please if anyone could offer some advice or assistence in this I would be most grateful.
Thankyou.
Cathy Bruce.

Hi Cathy, my advice is to take Cara back for a visit to her breeder, assuming the breeder is a knowledgable breed expert, and ask their opinion on whether or not she is suitable to be bred from. The breeder will also be the best person to guide you on the most suitable stud dog to use. One that will have strengths to compliment her weaknesses.

Of course then there is the subject of her hip and elbow scores, and whatever else is neccessary in the Bernese breed. Also 15 months is as yet too young to have a litter so you are doing the right thing in planning in advance. You would find that a copy of the Book of the Bitch will become your bible. Amazon have them.

Finally, I found that £1000 was about right to have set aside for breeding expenses.

I hope everything works out.
