My partner kept Gordon Setters for years but the last ones died from old age around the time his marriage dissolved. I think now is a good time for us to have another so I would be interested in obtaining a puppy bitch for him either as a Christmas present or birthday present (mid-January). I would prefer not to have to drive too far afield but am prepared to travel to Yorkshire, Humberside, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire (where I live). Can anyone put me in touch with a breeder please.

Many reputable breeders will not breed a litter around xmas time due to the demand for puppies as presents.
I would try contacting the breed club but I doubt if anyone will sell you a puppy as a suprise for your OH...If he is in full knowledge of what your doing however that is a different thing!

I agree with the above post. My OH wanted to get me a Gordon for my birthday. After much consideration he realised he didn't know enough about dogs to pick one for me and knew that I would prefer to go and pick a puppy myself. He told me what he was planning and we looked together. We went to see the puppies at 6 weeks and the anticipation of going to collect her at 9 weeks and buying all new beds, leads, toys and stocking up on the food she was eating, outweighed the surprise element. I would have have been delighted obviously to be presented with a puppy but in the end I am glad it was me who choose the girl that is hopefully going to be in my life for the next 12-15yrs.
