If anyone can offer successful remedies that they have tried , I would be very grateful. Very uncomfortable puppy :( & I am running out of ideas.

Liquid paraffin Sam. Orally and a little to lubricate the anus. If it's less severe, sugar water.
Most usual cause of constipation in a puppy this young is dehydration, so I would try giving the puppy a little warm glucose water to help hydrate and thus softening the motions. I would also smear the pups anus with liquid parafin if you have it, or ordinary vegetable oil if not this will encourage mum to lick and stimulate.
I have never had one so young with constipation, but have had them at 5 weeks plus with it, and this is what I do for them.

I agree liquid paraffin orally - also pre boiled water given by bottle is good & will often ease the constipation. Gently rubbing the pups abdomen will help make him/her feel a bit more comfortable. However if in doubt ~ seek vets advice, there may be a reason for the constipation.
edit to say - just read that & thought it sounded a bit silly, obviously there's a reason for the constipation, what I meant was there may also be a medical problem.

we have been to vets twice today....200 miles!!!! She has an infection & is on antibiotics....tbh I didnt think she would live this morning but now she is rehydrated, hungry & very feisty!! ;)
However her tum is getting bigger & so is her appetite but she is yelling the place down & really upseting the bitch (although i am h/rearing this litter :( )
Have done half ml of olive oil in her bum, plus have tried artificial stimulation, plus have added sugar to her lactol...but nothing seems to be working. :( May see if I can get syrup of fig stuff that babies have....has anyone tried that before?
I would drop the lactol for two feeds Sam, and just give boiled water and glucose, sometimes lactol can bung them up and you need to clear her out before putting any more in.
Hi Sam
Agree with the others, drop the powdered milk as it can separate on its way through and bung them up - Liquid Life Aid (available via vets or possibly agricultural merchants) and condensed milk with water would be better.
Hope your pup feels better soon
Get some califig from any chemist - boots and superdrug also some supermarkets sell it - give small dose to start maybe 0.5ml and then 1ml if no relief in 6 hours - very safe and have used with great success with my pups.

Sam, sorry I missed this earlier & hope the pup is OK now. I had real problems with constipation in Rapid's litter but changing the milk replacement to Esbilac made a big difference. It was expensive compared to Welpi / Lactol but worth it imo (OK, I know I wasn't paying the bills. :) )
Agree with the others about Liquid Paraffin. Some say it shouldn't be given to puppies orally but it did that litter no harm. Another old trick is to shape a long sliver of baby soap, lubricate it and gently insert it as far into the anus as possible. I thought I was going to lose Big Bird (the one in Somerset) to constipation but after a soap 'enema' she did a good impersonation of a toothpaste tube and hasn't stopped growing since.

Well I managed to get a bit more electrolyte into her, but little madam wont drink it on its own so HAD to add a tiney bit of milk to make her suck. She has been on this 3:1 mix for 48 hours now. She still screamed after every feed & staggered around the bed as if in pain after every feed :( so vet suggested tiny amount of measured metacam to help with pain. I also gave her a ml of califig....which had ne effect so gave 2ml later last night & ....allelulia..... she pooed at midnight :)
tbh, we are still not really sure if that was the problem....but it needed to be eliminated (excuse the pun!! :) )
Touch wood, she seems a little better this morning & didnt scream after her feed. Thanks everyone for the ideas & will keep you posted. Off to search internet for esbilac now! (nothing is too good or too expensive for my babies.)
great news Sam :-D
These babies are such a worry aren't they.

I have been very happy with Nurtolac which is made from goats Milk. I know that the molecules in goats milk are easier to digest than cows, and have had no problems using it re looseness etc.

Good news Sam. :) We know we're mad when cleaning up a puppy poo is the high point of the week :) :) Several people on DH-L recommended that I used Esbilac for hand rearing. I can't say for sure that it is better than Welpi / Lactol, but it is easier to make up than either of the others, becomes a smooth liquid without effort and after I changed to it I had no more serious problems with constipation.

Doing OK Sam?

hard to say really Val, although the fact she is alive must be a good sign!
She is no longer screaming or constipated so thats great. Infact all the pups have the trots now!!! :O She is still weaker than the others & am feeding her tiny amounts every 2-3 hours instead of with the others who are on 5 hourly feeds now. I just worry that she is way behind the others in the litter in terms of weight and ability. Maybe she will catch up a bit when solids start tomorrow?

All you can do is keep doing what you're doing, eh Sam? Fingers crossed.

Val, today she is beetling about the box with the others &eating like a trooper :)
However the 2nd largest boy is poorly :( he looked a bit quiet yesterday afternoon & this morning hes refusing bottle & got projectile watery diarroea :( he has also gone really thin overnight. vet coming this alvo to assess them all & treat. In all my years I have never had a litter like this.
