Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / FUN CHRISTMAS GAMES FOR DOG CLUBS?
- By Guest [gb] Date 09.11.04 15:36 UTC
Please could I ask for some suggestions of fun competitive games for our Christmas Club night (Obedience) for handlers and dogs to enjoy?

We have a couple of ideas but a few 'fresh' ideas would be most welcomed!

Grateful thanks

I remember when I took one of ours to our trainign clubs christmas pary and we played a fetch game with hard boiled eggs! They didn't have the shell on and the dog and handler had to run to the other end of the hall, the dog had to pick the egg up then run back and drop it for the owner to pick up. Fastest team won! We got a nice red rosette for winning(!)and the dogs got to eat the egg!
Very good idea I thought :), fun but also keeping in mind the training we had been doing!

Musical sit..........circles drawn on hall floor, dog has to sit in the circle.  Then take a circle away as in musical chairs
Retrieve a sausage............whichever dog brings back the most uneaten sausage (if any)
Immediate stop..............draw a line across the hall and set dog up one end, handler the other and handler has to drop dog on the line, nearest one wins.

I will try and think of some more.  The one thing I would avoid is very fast up and down the hall type games, unfortunately not everyone is very considerate of their dog on the end of the lead when trying to win.

We play Simons says. Simon says sit, stand etc. is ok.  If you do the command when not 'simons says' you have to sit out

At our Labrador party/show we get a number of tennis balls put numbers on some and not others  the dog sits and the handler throws a  ball into the pile and the dog has to fetch a ball back (or even two) if the ball has a number on the dog gets a prize.
In fact I think we got the idea originally  from this site :) its great fun

The most popular game at our Xmas party is this: two parallel lines of cocktail sausages are put on the floor, about 3 feet apart. The dog has to sit at one end of the 'runway' between the sausages and is then recalled by the owner to the other end of the 'runway' without eating any of the sausages. The winner has the most annoyingly, well behaved dog :D :D :D

Musical mats... good fun and a chance for some silly music! ;)

To make it more difficult, have say blue mats for sit, grey for stand and red for down.

Doggy pressups.  The dog who does the most press ups (sit, down, sit, down etc) in a chosen time gets the prize.

Have fun.  :)
