I posted here last week asking about this breed. My sister wants 1 so at the weekend she went to a show to talk to breeders. She spoke to 2 people who owned them and came away very confused. 1 owner told her the breed was very nasty and is likely to attack anything without reason and hates other dogs. The other person on the otherhand said the total opposite saying they are easy to train and mix with other dogs well. She already as a rescue greyhound so this concerned her. She doesnt know what to do about it now. In the past she as owned dogs with an easy going nature Deerhound and Wolfhound. Can anyone help I have looked on web sites for her but to be honest there doesnt seem much info about them.
ive heard they are very guardy,on own territory ive met some at a open show & they were fine, relaxed on the lead, just standing in the aisles talking to loads of passing dogs & people no probs!!!!
I have also met a whole gang who were very relaxed, but they were all from the same breeder. The majority I have met are territorial and when I first looked into the breed I was told they do not get on with other dogs but I suppose that could be said about many breeds! The only thing I can suggest for your sister is more resesarch! Best of luck.
Anatolians can be very 'guardy' they are known as Karabash in Turkey ( where they are fairly common and often can be seen as farmers dogs) and are bred to be very territorial and supicious of strangers. They are big powerful dogs with a mind of their own - definitly not a novice owners breed and if her experience has only been of laid back sight hounds ( e.g. Greyhounds and Deerhounds) then my advice would be to steer clear. A good alternative if she likes the look of the Anatolian would be the Leonberger - a bit heavier all through and a bit more coat but a much more easy going temperament and very impressive to look at !
