Not sure why you'd need to bath him/her, but if he's got into some mischief & is dirty & needs a freshen up - he could have a bath, no reason not to bath a dog of that age, it's a good learning experience too. (make it short & obviously keep him warm afterwards) - oh & don't forget your umberella :-D

your pup can have a bath (they might not like it though - most puppies dont like getting their first bath lol :-) )
make sure you use a special mild shampoo for puppies :-)

I think it is a good idea to get a puppy used to a bath early.

Just make sure it is a pleasurable experience, if it is small enough I would bath in the sink at that age, it is easier to reassure the pup and saves your back.  Use a rubber mat in the bottom (car mat from the rear of the car is ideal), I find they are more frightened of loosing a foot grip then anything else.

You can use either a puppy shampoo or a baby shampoo.

A 7 week old puppy should still be with mum, I would not bath a pup so young, a warm wet flannel is what I do.

Since the poster bred this pup, I imagine she is still with mum. Mine have usually had to have a couple of baths (in the sink) by 7 weeks. Won't do any harm as long as she's nice & warm afterwards.

I must admit my retriever had to have an awful lot of baths when she was a pup as she had a tendency to go to the loo in her crate and then lay in it,  not very nice i must say! it hasn't done her any harm.

Sheila, many pups can leave mum at 7 weeks no problem, small breeds sometimes go at 6 weeks I believe.

I would be quite happy with an experienced person having a puppy at 7 weeks old. I believe it is easier on the dam to loose the puppies over a period of days rather than all at once. Many years ago when I had my very first dog, he was only 5 weeks old. Literally a crime now but perfectly normal then.

Ice What you are saying is that small dogs like cavaliers go earlier than 7 weeks You have never had a toy breed from a responsible breeder the smaller the dog the older it should be. Lots of toy breeders don't let their puppies go until they are 12 weeks, especially chihuahua breeders as chi puppies can be difficult to rear-at least that is what a local experienced Ch Sh judge/breeder of champions Chihuahuas has always told me.

ive got a puppy here now whos ten weels old at the mo
all i use is baby wipes when called for

no need to subject a puppy to more than a  bed bath at that age

Seems everyone has different opinions so I think I'll go ahead and bath her, as people have said its not going to do her no harm.Anyway as I have said she is 8 weeks this saturday she is still trying to feed off mum , she does eat her food but still tries very hard to get milk off mum sometimes mum will lay there and be happy for her to try other times she runs off with pup attached to teat and dragging her along.. Which is quite entertaining . When will pup stop trying to feed off of her , When shes realizes theres no milk at all ??????
You've all been helpful so far hope you can be just as helpful with this..
Thanks Again All
Rachael.

btw ..She is a Yorkie !!
