I am at my wits end with my dog, he is very good on recall and obeys most commands but he will not stop squeeling when he sees another dog, he just gets so excited and makes this awful noise which frightens the other dogs and their owners, the thing is he is the most timid dog I have ever met and is usually frightened of his own shadow.
I have tried the masterplus collar but this is not working well, not sure if its my timing or he,s not bothered.
Does anyone know if an anti bark collar would work better, I would not be in control so the timing would be better. I just need to find a way to stop his squeeling.
Any advice would be welcome

How old is he? How long have you had him? Has he always done this? How do you respond?

Try teaching him to focus on you on command. Hold a treat up by your face and give a command, "watch me." (use the most special, homemade treats imaginable) When he makes eye contact, treat and praise. Do this at home first without distractions. Try to expose him to dogs from a much greater distance at first. When he sees the dog, but has perhaps not started in on the squeeling, hopefully on account of the distance, get his attention. SIT and then Eye contact = treat. Don't allow him to move until you give your release word, like "ok."

Gradually decrease the distance between him and other dogs. Hopefully by then he'll be good at that focussing on you on command. Reward when he does. When he starts the squeeling, have him sit and try that command. He'll still want to see the other dog, but he will have learned a little self control. Then if he does resist the other dog to focus on you, reward him by giving your release word and letting him go to the other dog if they look like they'll get along. If he squeels again, stop, sit, focus. Don't reward him by letting him go to the other dog. Wait till he controls himself again and then again....offer to let him go see the other dog. He'll catch on eventually that if he squeels.....no visitation. If he acts like a gentleman.....he gets to visit.

He is a springer and he's 2, he has always done it but just lately it seems worst than ever.
He was the runt of the litter and was given to us, we have had him since he was 4 months old, we have 2 other entire males and he is the weakest of them. Its such a shame he does this because out of the three he is probably the better at recall and other commands, his only problem is he gets so excited and then we get the noise, this spoils everything when you take him out. Surely there must be a way to stop him, we have tried taking him back, putting him on a lead and making him stay, this makes things worst though because he does not like being restrained.
