my old jack is a diabetic and must eat, his vet said at his age does not matter so much what he eats just that he does. i have tried every brand on the shelf including the usually failsafe brand of natures menu. i also cok him braised beef chicken or turkey with a variety of gravies and veggies, i have tried scambled egg[no milk] and poached salmon, tuna but after a while he stops eating  the meals even though i try not to give him the same food to often. at the moment all he will eat is sausages and they must be the best from smithfield.he has been checked over by a consultant vet and everything is ok. any ideas anyone?oh and as for the raw meat  diet he wont even sniff it and it makes me heave.

Oh gosh your'e in a dilemma :( When i first saw your message i thought it was going to read something like "he HAS to eat the prescription diet the vet put him on" Thank goodness thats not the case as those diets usually have worse ingredients than the original and they are oh so bland!
How old is Jack? I would suggest buying a book by Dr. Pitcairn called "Dr. pitcairns complete guide to natural health for dogs and cats"
it is chock full of information about food, cooked recipe's and ailments,i got my copy through amazon.

Have you checked out dorwest herbs  www.dorwest.com  among other things they have a product called "malted kelp tablets" which stimulates appetite. I used them on my fusspots and they truly do work, plus they are good for them and are natural, which is most important.
Have you tried naturediet? Apparently no dog can refuse it! I know you said Jack wont even sniff at raw BUT what about teeny tiny chicken necks, they are a complete meal in themselves and most dogs adore them, including my picky brats,if he refuses them you can ever so lightly sautee them in  little butter just enough to coat them. It doesnt sound like Jack is getting a balanced diet, which dogs of ALL ages need no matter what.

good luck

Christine
