Anybody know where I can get a dog carrier suitable for a labrador? I dont like leaving him at home and would like to take him shopping and smuggle him into shops unnoticed?
Thank you.

ROFL!

I carry mine in a Tesco's carrier bag. Don't use the ASDA ones if your Labrador weighs over 32Kg because compared with the Tesco's ones they are a bit flimsy and could let you down at the most inopertune moments.

John,
You may find it easier to use one of those trollies old women use, not so hard on the fingers :D
But may have to pad it out and padlock the top as they do tend to wriggle a bit when put in confined spaces and push top up :D :D :D :D :D :D

I hope you don't take him into shops John - I'd hate to think you were disobeying rules.

And you weren't being sarcastic in your post? Or perhaps you do carry your lab around in a carrier bag?

If you do not understand the difference between this post and the other then I will not waste my time trying to inform you. Just carry on breaking what rules you dont like but dont expect me to agree with your rule flouting

And if you do not understand the difference between taking a small dog into a welcoming shop, with permission, in a carrier and smuggling it in I will not waste my time trying to inform you either.

Does this sound like a welcoming shop to you? It certainly does not to me! No wonder the country is going to the dogs!

To quote your post back to you:
If you do not understand the difference between this post and the other then I will not waste my time trying to inform you.
I was under the impression this was a humourous post - hence why you responded in a humourous <?> way - why now are you quoting it back as if it was serious?
And incidentally, I do NOT break rules. I have never even had so much as a speeding/parking ticket...so please do not accuse me of being some delinquent law breaker on the basis that I was responding in a positive way to a visitor post without jumping to conclusions.

You very obviously do not look at rules the same way I do. From your post you say you do not break them but you very obviously bend them as far as they will go. I will say no more on this apart from saying you have gone way down in my estimation.

Unless I choose to fit a dane into a carrier and take him into a shop I am not bending any rules. What the poster chooses to do is up to them - but if they choose to take their dog into a shop in a carrier with permission form the shop owner/manager then I don't see that bending rules either.

If they're going into the shop with the proprietor's permission, why does the dog need to be concealed? Why not just pick it up and carry it tucked under the arm?

Perhaps its more comfortable to carry it in a carrier? Why not ask the poster?

Cant answer for the original guest enquirer, but can answer for me - I use a carrier for Puglet so I have both arms free to shop, do the banking, or whatever we are doing when she is out with me. It is also a lot easier on the arms and back, even with a tiny dog (10.5 lbs) to have her in a carrier.

I must say John, you have gone way down in mine too, I think Chloe gave a perfectly reasonable answer to the guests query....

small dog ermm i dont consider a lab a small dog :P anyway you would have to be a bloody body builder to carry it round :D

I use the Asda bags & let the legs through - it's easier on the arms than carrying lumps of labrador around :D :D :D
Or you could use a twin baby trolley - my dogs are better behaved than most of the toddlers in Asda in any case!!

It is possible to get dogs on wheels that you can just roll along - I think that Hamley's sell them ;)

It cant be much of a labrador. You should be able to train any half-decent lab to pop out and do the shopping for you!

And when doing the shopping the lab could wear a camo jacket so he could sneak in without being seen!!

I thought she said she wanted to conceal the dog, because people keep stopping her to stroke the dog and it takes ages for her to get anywhere. Not to hide it from the shop owners

Thanks LL but I do have a problem. Whilst walking around ASDA today with Anna secreted in her usual TESCO carrier bag the bottom fell out. Unfortunately I tried to stuff her into one of the fresh veg bags but could only get two feet in. She jumped out and ran to the meat stand and pinched a length of sausages, did a runner for the door and got chased by three shelf fillers. It was explained to me in words of one syllable that ASDA do not accept dogs either on the lead or in carriers. Needless to say, I have been banned from ASDA and will be taking my custom to TESCO in future.

Nice one John! :D A level head amongst the flapping!

John - the reason Asda were upset is because you were using a Tesco carrier :D

Hi im sat here rolling with laughter, i had a boxer oh 12/13yrs ago that at that time you could take them into shops without any bother, well whilst out walking i called into my local garage to pick up some cigarettes no problem there. i purchased my cigs and as i turned round to exit the garage to my horror i looked down and there was Oscar with a large sliced loaf between his jowels how do you explain that to the assistant he didnt put his teeth into the loaf but still he had it in his mouth, i offered to pay for the loaf but the staff said it was ok as they had never had a dog shop lifter before i was horrified. but now im looking into buying a carrier big enough so i can take all four of my boxers into the shops without any staff noticing them, saves me from tying them up outside on their fav lamp post
Chloe i'm with you,It seem there is a very fine line between being funny and being a sarcastic smart***!
I'm not ashamed to say i bend the rules sometimes when it comes to my dogs, dont let anyone make you feel guilty with their pompous holier than thou attitude!

Don't worry LL, there is always one.
Those were the days Polly45. I remember my old Mandy being hit over the head by a tin of Emulsion paint way back in the days when Woolworth's sold that kind of thing! (She was not amused!!) I've had some lovely holidays in the West Country eating cream teas with a pair of Labs curled up under the table. In those days if the restaurant owner saw you he or she was more likely to go off and find something for the dog's tea. A far cry from today's situation. My dogs even went shopping in TESCO in Caernarfon when we were on holiday there years ago.
Nowadays even garden centres, which really have nothing to be worried about, ban all dogs.
Regards, John

Our gardens centres all allow dogs in & a couple even have the owners dogs pottering around ;)

John I think you are incorrect. They aren't called shelf fillers in Asda these days, they are called colleagues! Most of the ones in my local Asda wouldn't be able to spot a Labrador when it wasn't in a carrier so you should certainly be OK with one in a bag. Do you use the 'bag for life', costing 10p and replaced F.O.C. when it breaks? This might be a better solution rather than using Tesco bags.

Jackyjak - my OH has stomped off to work in a huff - he's an Asda colleague :D :D :D
(he's the one with his pockets weighted down with the teats that we buy for our dogs for the ones tied up to the dog pegs outside the Asda where he works ;) )

Ah Margot, at least he's a 'colleage' and not a shelf-stacker! I gather you mean TREATS??!!!!!!
We're lucky John because our local garden centre (Haskins) still allows dogs in, both in the garden bit and the shop bit. I regularly took Banya in there for socialisation when she was younger, and now use the car park for distractions training :)
Hope things dont change - it bugs me though that they have a pet shop in there and still sell fireworks!
