Hi.
Have you tried ringing Mrs Shirley Johnson of the Flatcoated Retriever Society? She is the litter register secretary and is informed by breeders with puppies for sale. Most bitches are booked long before a bitch has her puppies, and liver is also a colour which seems to be fashionable at the moment, so putting the two together you might find that you will have to contact a breeder and go onto a waiting list.
I don't know why liver is becoming a more fashionable colour to own, as surely if you want a flacoat it is the breed, it's health record and temperament not the colour, which should have attracted you to the breed in the first place. If you have never had a flatcoat before I would suggest you contact breeders and ask them if you might visit their dogs or go to Discover Dogs which is being held at Earls Court in November. Details can be obtained from the Kennel Club. At Earls Court there will be experienced breeders with flatcoats, who will advise you further.
Do bear in mind that most flatcoats are still kept as working dogs, and as the shooting season has just started they will be working and therefore litters with puppies available will be fewer than in the summer months.
If you would like more help and information you can contact one of the area representatives of the Flatcoated Retriever Society, or I can send you more information via email, contact me on foxpath4@hotmail.com
