hello again can you please help. i have a friend who like me has german shephereds her bitch came out season roughly about 2 weeks ago and she is looking to breed her when she is about 3 or four when she has done what she wants her to do in the show ring however she is wondering if the next door dog may have caught her when her husband has had her out in the garden when he is doing his pigeons but this would have had to be done through a mesh fench is this possiable and the dog is actually a cross breed would this ruin the dog from producing good pups later in life as i read something like this on anouther site and it said it could is this right? by the way her and her husband have fallen out big style and the dog is booked to the vet to find out for sure. she has told me that she only found out a few days ago that this may have happened as her husband said that he took his eyes off her for a few mins otherwise she could have gone to the vets and had the injection to be on the safe side. like i say they dont know for sure but i thought i would ask the board as it gives me sometihing to talk bout.

Hi Mark. It is possible for a mating to take place through a mesh fence. Whether it's likely or not depends on the dogs concerned & whether she was actually ready for mating at the time. If it's over 2 wks ago, it's too late to do anything now if the owner wants to breed from her later - just wait & see. If she did have a cross bred litter now it is absolute nonsense to say it will affect future litters - that's not just an old wives tales it's an ANCIENT wifes tale!!!

I would have to say that a mesh fence would not be enough of a barrier to stop my boy from mating!  It would take reinforced solid steel barriers if there was an in-season bitch on the other side!
