- By Guest [gb] Date 11.10.04 18:08 UTC
i'm not sure which classes i would enter my 6 mth old pup in.If i enter him in minor puppy can i then enter puppy as well, what others would be recommended to enter,i'd like to do a few but don't want to bore him or wear him out.sorry if i sound ignorant,it's a bit confusing getting to grips with all the rules,i don't want to be unprepared or seem like i don't know what i'm doing.

Hi Guest

Yes you can enter Puppy and Minor Puppy.  I wouldn't do anymore than that with him for his first few shows.  If it is a Championship show you could enter Minor Puppy in breed and the relevant stakes puppy class too.  That would split the classes up for him

At 6 mths I would just enter Minor puppy (in puppy theres a big difference of 6mths in age!!!) and then maybe AV minor puppy if I liked the judge and thought the pup might do well/have a good experiance.  I would never do more then 2 classes, for the first few shows just keeping it to one class.

A lot dep0ends on if there are large classes in your breed.  In a numerically small breed it can be better to enter both classes as otherwose the pup is in and out the ring before it has had a chance to relaise what has happened.  they often show better in the second class :D

I usually do up to 3 classes with mine.  At an Open show say breed pouppy class, the AV grpoup class and Puppy stakes.  At champ shows I would go for both puppy classes (or puppy and Junior with a slightly older pup) and Puppy stakes.

The mixed breed classes are very good for getting the pup used to being in with different breeds which will stand you in good stead if he goes on to get BOB when older and goes in the Group.  Also they are usually seen and moved one at a time, and take a little whicle giving pup a chance to settle before having to perform.
