Hi There

          I was hoping someone could please give me some advice, we have a 2 year old male cavalier called Charlie and lately in the past week or so I have noticed he has been bitting all the time at his back towards his behind and also his legs. Both my husband ans I have checked him over for fleas and have found nothing, Would anyone have any idea at all why he is doing this. We would be so greatful for any advice

has Charlie been in any long grass at all ?? as grass mites are not visable to the human eye, i would still treat him for fleas even though you have looked - but to be honest you are better off getting some frontline on him, its expensive but well worth the money...also i would ask your vet if they have any shampoo for grass mites..just in case!!!

i have 3 cav's and not long treated one for grass mites...i can't think of the name of the product our vet gave us..

oh - have you bathed him?? changed his shampoo ?? if NO to these answeres then maybe giving him a bath may help!

I would agree, get him checked out by the vet, there's obviously something irritating him, be it a skin complaint or I would suggest having his anal glands checked, the behaviour your dog is exhibiting is often a way for them to try and relieve the irritation.  Best to have him checked out either way. HTH :)

Could also be impactd anal glands causing him irritation, and he is biting at the area that he can reach.
