I hope somone can give me some advice.
I've got a 1yr old female Boxer. She is a fantastic dog and we love her to bits. She is crate trained and has been really good with house training up to now. We work from home so she has company most of the time and is let out at regular intervals. she has had an upset tummy the last couple of days and our problem is she doesn't let us know when she needs to go out. She doesn't bark or whine or anything. Obviously in normal circumstances she just holds herself until she is let out but with this problem she just messes indoors if we don't notice her at the door.
My question is how do you train a dog to bark if it needs to go out????

Quite frankly I would rather not teach a dog to bark. She will find a way of letting you know. My Anna gives me the hard stare. She sits in front of me staring intently at me until I take notice. Believe me, it's far more civilised that being barked at.
Regards, John
I would not teach the dog to bark. My bitch usually places herself either right in front of the TV, or right under my computer table, making it difficult for me not to notice. My boy usually comes to me and if I am sitting down places his head on my lap, or if I am standing (say cooking in kitchen, he sits on my feet so that when I try to move I cannot but notice him.
My girls both go to the back door and rattle the keys when they want out.
No need to bark.
Maybe you could teach your girl to do that too.
Kind regards,
Linda :-)
Hang a string of small bells on the door and teach your dog to nose them when she needs to go out. If you ring the bells every time you open the door for her she will soon work out that ringing of bells = door opening.
