Last year I bought a puppy to use as a stud dog on my JRT bitches.  He is now 1 1/4 years old.  He has covered 4 bitches so far but no puppies have resulted.  One mating was a proven brood bitch.  He is from Champion lines on both sides.  Any suggestions/ideas?

Have you had a semen sample tested for fertility?

Take it this is a Parson we are talking about, may be to have been used 4 times before 15 months old is to much or may be he had an illness or was in a high temperature when he was a puppy. As the quest talks of JRT and also of champions may be it is not in the UK and that would not be possible unless there is some sort of working championship I do not know of and may be if he is from a country that is a good deal hotter than the UK he has suffered from an excess of heat and that has made him temporally infertile. As JG said the only was to know is to have the seamen checked out for quantity and quality.

Have you had him swabbed by the vet for an infection?

As the others say he needs to be checked for infection and sperm tested but even if his sperm test shows him to be infertile at the time it is possible that he may become fertile again later. A friend of mine had a boy who mated several bitches with no success. He was fully checked out and sperm tested at least twice and shown to be infertile. So she wasn't worried when she found him tied to one of her own bitches. Result - 9 pups :)

This happened to a GSD import a long time ago the first bitch he mated in the UK had an infection that she passed on to him & he was infertile for ages whilst the infection was cleared. It was a great shame as he had produced some lovely dogs in Germany, he did get shown & made up & eventually did get his fertility back.

My father when over to Germany to fetch him back with his new owner & this was at the same time as the Falklands Conflict(shows how long ago it was)
