I am very interested in breeding my cocker spaniel bitch, but i do not know the first thing about breeding safely. I know you have to look at the blood lines but am not sure about how that works. Please could you put me on the right track or even better give me an email address of a good breeder who could advise me.

Hi Guest, it is nice to hear you are thinking early about if you should breed you bitch or not, there are 3 things that you can do now that will help you learn about your breed and it's health problems and if your bitch is worthy of being bred from. They are join a breed club, show or work your bitch and first contact the bitches breeder who will or should, if they are careful and caring breeders, tell you if the bitch is up to standard and how to go about proving her and what health tests you should do. Good luck with your project, one other thing you should perhaps ask yourself is why you wish to go into breeding as it is risky, expensive and dam hard work, well it is if the job is done properly.

One last thing you could do and may be it should be the first thing, is to join this board.
