Whats happening with all the flattie pups!!?? seems to be a nationwide shortage!!

I was also wondering if anyone knew the % of flatties to get cancer, and the average age?

Firstly, you must appreciate that there are on average only 1400 Flatcoats bred per year as opposed to 7000 goldens and 40000 labradors.

Also, the breed society do not encourage commercial breeders or people who breed solely for the pet market.

have you contacted the breed litter secretary - Mrs Johnson - she knows of all litters that comply with the Society code of ethics but there is not much about at the moment.

As for the cancer - don't let ANYONE tell you their lines free of it - there is NO line completely free of it.  It is arguable what percentage actually get it - Mrs Johnson is also one of the Trustees of the Cancer Tumour Survey and she would be able to provide stats.

And - as another small aside - please don't call them "flatties" - it is an insult to our lovely breed.

HAR HAR HAR

Well I did struggle up to 40 last month.  However it is also meant to be for people that have had children and I certainly drew a blank there!!!!!

Seriously - never have one and if you do just pray it doesn't perforate.  I don't think mine liked me very much!!!

I will be back for Driffield.  Hopefully will be back picking up before then.  I am actually feeling quite OK now!
