If you want an undocked HV some breeders will leave it on for you if you pay upfront; there are a few breeders who do not dock.
No is the simple answer. We have 2 HV bitches and both are docked although one is slightly longer than the other. I have seen some that, IMO, are far too short-I haven't got a problem with docking as long as the dog can cover it's self adequatley if you know what I mean :)
Tohme is right, some breeders don't dock and as the standard now has a part for both docked and undocked the chances are that more with full tails will be seen about but many still prefer the docked 'look'.(Don't wish to start a docking debate-am just stating what i have found in my experience)
Hope this helps
hi guest again i dont want to start a docking debate but here is my experiance-
we own six hungarian vizslas five are docked the sixth is a bitch i imported from Hungary and has a full tail, she has suffered minor tail injuries daily since we got her not from working but just from wagging her tail and wacking it on the furniture.
she now has a scared tail tip and it continually re-opens ,we have tried various ways of getting it to heal some sucess was given by taping a suringe case to the tip to protect it but i then have to watch her like a hawk to stop her chewing it off!!
I dread the damage she is going to inflict to it out in the field this year!!
personally i find the minor procedure of docking alot less disturbing for the dog than a life time of minor tail injuries and having the tail continuosly cleaned and dressed.
there are breeders who dont dock as some countries dont permit the showing of docked dogs. there are also breeders who will leave the tail on by request as indeed i would have done until we bought the full tailed bitch and witnessed the damage for ourselves.
both the council of docked breeds and the anti docking alliance have websites which will help you make a informed decision.
but tail or not they are a truley beautiful breed although some what demanding!! :)

I totally agree Kate and had a similar problem with my springer who ended up having an amputation which was very very painful and took over a year to heal properly. The effects of the operation have been long lasting.
When I had a litter, I had a request to leave a tail on but refused. They agreed to pay up-front but I couldn't see how they could possibly tell which pup would be suitable for them, straight after the birth. I was right because the one they would have chosen on the day of their birth was not the one they took home in the end. My pups (cockers) were tipped and it was the easiest procedure you could possible imagine in comparison to the years of trouble we had with a damaged tail.

Fortunately tail damage is not an inevitable consequence of not docking; I certainly had no problems with my undocked Weimaraner.
