We have an 18 month old Boxer named Buster. But we have only every had little dogs before (minuture jack russel) and my husband is worried we are not feeding him enough. He as 1250 grams of meat a day which is split into two feeds and two scoops of biscuits mixers with each feed plus dog treats through the day mind he loves ginger biscuit but we are sparing as for suger content.
He is the long legged variety and is a pedigree. He as a fantastic temperment and loves the grandchildren. The two year old grandaughter can do anything with him. But he chews everthing he can get which is why I think the previous owner got rid of him. His he to old now to be trained out of this?
Hoping you can help
thank you
a very happy boxer owner

Sounds as though you are feeding plenty, but dogs, like people are individuals and some may need more, some may need less. If your dog has plenty of energy, bright eyes, and you can just feel his ribs when you run your hand along his side then he is fine. If you can actually see his ribs, his backbone, and his hip bones, then he is very underweight. It is better to have a dog slightly lean than overweight.
You can overcome the chewing problem. First you need to determine why he is chewing; could he be stressed? bored? Boxers need mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. There are several articles on the internet which address chewing problems. Type chewing+dogs into Google. This is just one of the many results http://wa.essortment.com/dogchewingpr_rcbu.htm
Taking him to training classes would be a good idea. My Boxers just love obedience & agility classes.
Wishing you many happy years with Buster.
