I have a 2 year old papillon who over the last two months has had a one bald ear. He has been treated for ear mites, allergies and his ears have both been cleaned out. We have contacted a vet over his problem but she cant find anything wrong with him.
Its not the whole of his ear, the area round the tips and inside of the ear has really long feathering, it is just on the back/ outside of the ear in the center. He has no other hair loss across his body.
The symptoms that i can see is his skin is very flakey and even if you are really gentle when you touch his ear tiny bits of the skin falls off and takes any new hair growth with it.He doesnt seem to be irritated or in any pain over his ear and doesnt scratch it.
Can you help?

Has your vet taken a skin scraping and tested for ringworm? This fungal infection is not always itchy, can be difficult to diagnose and does not always fluoresce under a Woods lamp.
Hope this helps
