This puts our problems in perspective -
The town of Gonaives has been completely destroyed by hurricane Jeanne. The hospital does not exist anymore. All patients drowned. There is no government building as well as most private ones standing up following a rise in the flood water of 15 feet.
There are more than a 1000 deaths and all people there have no food no water whatsoever. The town does not exist anymore. The road to Cape Haiti does not exist anymore for it goes through Gonaives. Cape Haiti, Port-de-Paix and all the cost line suffered great casualties.

Yes - Haiti is a very poor, very downtrodden country with an economy barely above subsistence level so there's not much "style" there - the message came through from our Agent in Port au Prince this afternoon - one of our guys was out there last year, inspecting the Agency - he said he just didn't understand how they could survive last year - and now this.
