Hello Pru
I've got a weird unidentified neuropathy in my Damson (flatcoated retriever) - the vets have come to a grinding halt with a diagnosis, short of sending her up to the Animal Health trust for an MRI scan, but the chances of anything being operable are pretty slender, I think.
She started off about 7 months ago with in-coordination on her left hind, and it's unfortunately progressing in spite of palliative care. To me it looks like the degenerative myelopathy that GSDs get, although the vets say not.
I'm treating it as such, with high level vit B & E, and actetylcysteine, together with prednisolone, which I hate, but it does seem to help. She should have aminocaproic acid as well, but it's difficult to come by.
We swim her as often as possible in a hydrotherapy pool, and on good days she will charge ahead of the others on a walk, but keels over on corners. She's very mentally bright, and doesn't appear to be in any pain with it.
