Our Presa, Phoenix, has epilepsy. She is on 3x60mgs phenobarbitone a day.
Does anyone know where we might be able to get in online??
I've found it on a few sites but they are US or Canada and don't ship this drug to the UK.
The vet is happy enough to give us a 'script'.
Any help would be appreciated as it getting quite expensive. About £80 pm.
All our family are 'putting in the kitty' at the moment.

Vets have only just restarted prescribing Phenobarb. For years it was off the menu for animal use. I was prescribed it for Bethany when she first started fitting but because her fits were at manageable frequencies I stopped and never gave her any medication for the rest of her life. Shortly after she started fitting the EU passed rules banning medication which had not passed for animal use, in case it should enter the food chain. The regulations made no distinction between pets and farm animals!

The late Pat Chapman, who did a lot of work on epilepsy in Goldens, her second breed, told me of a homeopathic medication but because I did not need it at the time I never made a note of it. Unfortunately it was shortly after that when she died.

Regards, John

THere are various homoeopathic remedies for epilepsy as fits can take many forms.  Ignatia is probably the most well known, but again strictly speaking a consultation needs to be undergone with a BAHVS member in order to obtain the whole picture of the dog for the correct remedy to be prescribed.

Other remedies include Chamomilla, gelsemium, silica and belladonna.

Thanks for the link DawnB.

I tried, without success, to contact them through the email addy, but I 'phoned them today and guess what.

60mgx28 Per week X 4 weeks= £4.79
Vet prescriptionx 1 month=£5.00

The Pharmacist told me to insist on a Repeat Prescription from the vet so  they could just send fruther meds when required.

The cost frome the vet for 6months supply is £336.
The cost from Hyper for 6 months supply, including prescription, is £58.74.
A saving of £277.26. WOW.

Plus there are no delivery charges as I live 7 miles from the Pharmacy.
How did I not know they were there???
