A friend of mine who I meet daily on my walks has a beautiful Irish Setter (William)  He is fed on IAMS and has always done ok on it - However, he has had diahorrea for ages now and the vet is at a bit of a loss by the sounds of it.  He has been anaesthetised on a number of occasions for investigative work, has numerous bold patches as a result and his mum is soooo upset as now the vet wants to castrate him (he is 5 years old) bill currently stands at £1100. The vet thinks he may have an enlarged prostate that is pushing the bowels and should be castrated - he has also taken samples/biopsies from the bowel (awaiting results)  I saw the dog this am and he looks very well considering and he is very perky!!!  His owner is keen to try a homeopathic remedy but doesn't have access to the internet or other useful information sources readily.  Any suggestions greatly received!

Whatever route she takes it is important to know that certain simple things have been ruled out:

ie giardia, salmonella, e-coli, campylobacter would be the obvious ones to look for in terms of infection.

Has the dog been allergy tested to see if it is reacting to its food and/or has a yeast infection causing leaky gut syndrome?

If infection AND allergy and yeast infections have been ruled out (which does not sound the case) then other cause needs to be identified.

In order to successfully treat a condition like this a proper homoeopathic consultation would need to take place; this is not something for "First Aid" in order for the homoepath to fully understand the entire situation.

In addition to Tohme's excellent advice, has the dog been tested for Coeliac disease?  Blood tests are not 100% accurate for this, biopsies are better but sometimes the only way of diagnosing is to stick rigidly to a gluten free diet (excluding all wheat, rye, barley and oats and any traces of them or their derivatives, including contamination with microscopic amounts) This can take up to 6 months to repair damage to the gut, but some improvement can be expected within the first month, if there are no setbacks.

Hope this helps
Regards
Dill
