Hi,
I have 7 six week old puppies, their stool have been soft and something diarrhea like on and off, they did have roundworms, we treated them twice with Strongid and had a stool sample check and they still had some so we wormed them with a once a month pill a two days ago. Of course we saw more roundworms, could this be the only cause of diarrhea, I'm getting worried , everyone is still doing very well and I taught maybe the food is not right for them I could switch them over to another brand.. what about coccidia.. would the diarrhea get worst if it was coccidia because these guy's stools are like I said soft and sometimes normal but most of the time soft. I gave Kaopectate to see if it would help and didn't seem to do anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Lucy
Did you give the worming does for very young puppies or a once a month adult's pill - puppies should be treated differently. You can also, if you have a litter in the future, treat your bitch with Panacur from day 42 onwards to reduce the potential worm burden in the pups.
Get you vet to do another stool sample test to see if anything else shows up such as an infection which needs to be treated and cleared up before they can go to their new homes
Too much food, or food inappropriate for young pups can also cause "dire-rear".
I would probably be inclined to firstly consult the vet again to rule out any kind of infection and then try reducing the food a little to see if this firms them up.
