I just want to warn others about giving dogs a bone.  It has been my dogs 'treat' for the last year to have a bone in the afternoon and then this week she was very unwell.  I took her to the vet and she had pieces of bone stuck in her back passage.  He said because she is a big dog she doesn't chew it properly.  I now have a very disappointed dog as that is the end of her bone treats but I think she and I are very lucky that it didn't do her any permanent damage.

Unfortunately there are risk in everything.

Dogs choke and get impacted by all sorts of things such as rawhide, kibble, balls etc etd.

Dogs do not chew bones, they do not have flat topped molars to chew with.

Large bones like shin or knuckle bones should only be for recreation not consumption, they should be taken away after the marrow and cartilage have been stripped away.

Raw Meaty Bones such as chicken carcases, wings, legs etc are perfectly safe for feeding.

Cooked bones should, of course, never be fed at all!

My dogs have had no trouble with raw bones thank goodness.
