We have a 23 week old male bichon frise who is constantly scratching. We took him to the vets a few weeks ago who confirmed that it is a problem with fluffy white dogs. She advised us to not give him food with beef or lamb in it and to stick to chicken and rice where possible. We have put frontline on his neck but it hasn't made any difference. There are so many things that he could be allergic to that it is hard to know where to start. She gave us some Epi-soothe shampoo to bath him in. Can anybody advise me if ham is okay for him and if best mincemeat is okay or not. I don't know if it is just the canned and dried meat that he can't have or all beef meat. We use ham or cheese to get him back to us after a walk because we are having trouble catching him to put him back on the lead again- I was wondering if this was making things worse for him. Is there any sort of herbal supplement to help with the scratching because I feel so sorry for him. He hasn't got any sort of rash and it is mostly on his shoulders where he scratches. He also nibbles his feet a lot and they are now a gingery colour instead of white. He also has problems with his ears and scratches them a lot as well. I use otodex ear drops for his ears and clean them out every couple of days. Any advice would be welcome

Try Quistel. It comes in shampoo and a spray (you can use both together) I had great results with it and I know others on the board have too.

Bichons can't tolerate beef or beef products of any description and depending on which food you are feeding there is a possibility that there could be beef by products in it even if it is advertised as a different flavour. What food are you feeding?
Thanks
