i have just bred my first litter and have a very weak pup. its not feeding very well, dam wants very little to do with it and im trying to had feed but its not taking to the bottle too well. A friend mentioned they saw a post on here about a kind of soup, home made, that has been known to bring fading pups back a bit. ive tried the search but found nothing.
Can any of you help me? im getting worried about the poor little mite now.

Thanks in advance,
Lorrie

Hi Lorrie,

You don't say how old the litter is or how many pups were born?  Perhaps if you could provide a bit more info better help would be available.  Why not join?

For example, has the mum and litter been vet checked?  Is the puppy's pallet OK to make sure he/she is able to suckle properly?

Assuming they are literally newborns, are you giving the poorly pup regular colostrum?  This is what it would be getting through mum's teats at first.

If they are already a few days old, try offering him/her some Carnation milk in between putting the puppy onto it's mum.

Sorry, it's difficult to give specific advice without more facts :-(  Please sign up and let us know how you get on.

Good luck, Teri ;-)
