Topic Dog Boards / Health / lump after tick removal

I took a tick off Chance this evening, but there is a large lump where it had been attached. This doesn't normally bother me, as I know the swelling will go down. I just wondered if there was a way to help it go quickly? We are going to SKC on Saturday and the lump is rather noticable ;)

If the lump is big enough to be noticeable, do keep a close eye on it. I had that with one of my bitches and it turned out that the tick which had bitten her, although completely removed, had given her some kind of infection, which took ages to sort out. It would swell, and a course of antibiotics would follow, the swelling would go down then it would flare up again. In the end she needed surgery to remove infected tissue, which left her with a large scar down her neck.

Thanks for the warning. It looks like the swelling is going down quite quickly, but I expect it'll still be there for Saturday ;) I've never had one swell up as much as this one before, though there has usually been some swelling. I'll drop in at the vets in the morning, I think, as he could only have got it off the wildlife, probably deer, as there are quite a lot around here. They come down to drink just up the path from us.
