If you are the original breeder of a dog could you at a later date change the pedigree name of the dog?

I think its possible but not 100% sure ? Anyone ?

Once a name has been accepted by the KC, the only change that is allowed is the addition of an affix - and then only once. It makes no difference whether you bred the dog or not, altho' I think now the rules have been relaxed so if a breeder takes a dog back they can remove the affix which someone else had added -if you can follow that!

Not actually true, Anwen - in some cases, the KC will accept a name change if the breeder agrees to it, although not entirely sure if that's the only criterion.  I know someone who's done this, as they didn't like the name the breeder had chosen (and in that case, don't even think they had approval from the breeder, but that's a whole different story ..... I'd be livid if that happened on a pup I'd bred).

In the case I know of, the pup was registered as "Affix Name" and was then changed to "Affix Othername of Owner's Affix" if that makes sense LOL.

Hi guest, if you go to the Kennel Club Website, and go to KC Forms, you will find one to change the name. There are however some criteria. The dog must have been named within the past 3 months. The original name was misspelt by the breeder, or the breeder did not specify the name requested by the new owner. The breeder did not give an alternative and initial the box to prevent the KC from naming the puppy, or the name the KC chose is not considered acceptable.

The KC has become more reasonable over the years then. Only case I knew when the KC did change a name was when a friend had a name rejected & had forgotten to tick the box. The name the KC chose was Affix Little Boy Blue. As it was a merle collie the name would have been fine - except it was a bitch :D. Many years later, same breeder, different breed, registered Affix Sweetheart. Poor little bitch went through life as Affix Sweatheart!!  :( Oh, and her brother, instead of being Heartbreaker, ended up as Heathbreaker!
Seriously I would be livid if the KC allowed a name change on a dog I'd registered too!!
