My friend and I were wondering, if an Open Show schedule has got Border Collie classes Post-Grad and Open - and my friend's dog is a puppy - can she enter AVNSC Puppy, or can she not do that because the breeds is actually 'classified' (although no puppy class)?

As far as I understand you can only enter ANVSC(as we often do)if your breed is as it describes, not seperatley classified. You could enter a puppy in either, open or post grad in the breed classes, but I think most people would be inclined to go in post grad with a younger dog. You could also enter AV Puppy, AV Junior and AV Pastoral Puppy/Junior/Open if they have them.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks Emily, we did think that was probably the rule, but just weren't quite sure. My friend just thought she could enter the AVNSC puppy class, as she said there was no actual border collie puppy class, but because, as you say, the breed is classified, that does make sense then.

Hilda, what she can do is enter AV Puppy/AV Puppy Pastoral, without entering the breed as there is no puppy class!

Also point out if she enters a puppy in PG or Open and is unbeaten by another pup (even if she is placed VHC) she can still challenge for Best Puppy in Breed and go on to the group or Best Puppy in Show.
Hi Jackie,
Thanks for that info - didn't know that either!
