We have a male westie called Dylan who is one year old and is fantastic!!
We are thinking about getting another westie but are unsure how this
will affect him. When he meets other dogs when we are out walking he is
really friendly and loving. He was also great when we looked after my parents
dog when they were on holiday and loved having a playmate.
If we did get another would it be best to get a dog or a bitch?.
I would love to give another westie a good home but also want to do whats
best for Dylan who i love so much.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I don't have westies but I have got two dogs and they are great company for one another. I have two bitches. There is of course no guarantee that they are going to get on, but it is a good start if the one you have now is friendly and there isn't going to be a great age difference between them which I think is good. There is seven years between mine.....they get on fine....but the young one is a bit too boisterous for the eight year old!
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

If he's a friendly sociable little dog, then purely from his point of view it would probably be a good idea, and either a dog, or a speyed bitch (if Dylan is still intact) would probably be fine.
However, twice the dog is more than twice the work if they are to remain focused on you as their owner, and not form their own 'pack'......
