I am visiting litters of pups next week and want to ensure i get an agility potential pup!!!
How do i chose from a litter of such small pups??
Please try and help me!!!

I'm no expert on agility, but so much depends on not just the pup itself but the quality of the training and so on. You can have a potentially brilliant dog but if the trainer who helps you is not very good, or allows the dog to lose confidence on the contacts and so on, it may all fall flat! Similarly you could have a mediocre dog who with kind handling and expert help could do very well. And don't forget that special bond between dog and owner which i believe is important for any dog sport.

I would suggest ensuring that the breed you have chosen is generally reasonably good at agility and has the body shape for it; is a reasonably healthy breed ( do check for potential health problems eg. Cavaliers - heart) and pick an active  pup who seems pleased to see you and is full of fun and interest. I would suggest that would be a good start anyway :)

Lindsay,

I quite agree.   For agility, as in all doggie activities, there does have to be a good relationship between the dog and handler.   I would have thought that potentially many dogs could do agility with the correct training, although obviously some breeds are naturally better than others.

I've also seen some good dogs not compete to their best potential due to unmotivated handlers, so a lot of success is also down to the handler.

Why don't you register? You have posted so many times as a guest recently and if we ask a question you cannot reply.

You cannot pick a pup that shows agility potential.  If it is constructed to do agility and you train it correctly it should do it.   I am somewhat alarmed at your posts appearing to want only a dog that is going excel at agility, the breed or type seem irrelevant.

I suggested sometime back you go to an agility show and have a look at the different breeds and talk to owners of those that appeal, I assume you haven't done this, I still consider this to be your best option.
