I have a 6 month old elkhound pup who is,to say the least.rather 'portly'!! (got a strict telling of by his breeder last weekend LOL)
He is on 2 meals a day but seems to be ctting himself back to one as he now only eats his evening meal most days. I don't usually cut back to one meal a day at this age but since he needs to lose weight and he is not bothered by his morning meal should I ??

Feed less at 2 meals, think he may have over heard and has decided he is eating to much, by all means half his food but spread it over 2 meals. Had the opposite problem with his relative he wanted to stay on 3 meals and at 8 months I had to false him onto 2 but he shouted for his supper after we went to bed for a few nights, greedy s*d :)

PS: since owning GSDs I have always fed twice a day and still do with the Elks, have had a case of bloat with an Elk when she was in kennels, so I would be worried about dropping to one meal a day, not that it would be allowed anyway.

I would say Yes.  My lexi has been on one meal a day since 6 months as she did as yours has done, when previously all my others were on two meals until 12 months, and anorexic Kizi stayed on two meals until two years old!!!

Well I haven't given him his breakfast this morning and he doesn't seem at all bothered...so we'll see how it goes
Thanks you two.
Nikki.
