Our 4 year old female shih tzu doesnt seem to eat much at all. We have tried her with different dog foods but she isnt really interested yet she isnt skinny. Any ideas?

I was once given some great advice years ago about a bitch of mine who was doing the same thing I had tried everything to get this girl to eat ..the trouble became a battle of what she fancied and not what she was given I bought a good well known dog feed and stuck to it ...it was painful to watch her day after day turn he nose up at it , in fact she refused it for 5 days ! just as i was going to give in yet again she sneaked from her bed when she thought i wasn't looking and ate the food .....buy a good quality dog food stick to it and don't give in ...she will eat it if she's hungry

Guest, a shih tzu isn't a very big dog and won't seem to eat much ;) if she isn't skinny and is active and bright then whatever amount she is eating is enough for her needs.  The guide is that you need to be able to feel the ribs when you run your hands down her sides (under her coat) - not sharp ribs ;) but so you know that they are there.  If she seems to be a bag of bones then she's underweight, if you can't feel any bones then she's overweight, somewhere in between is normal.

Hope this helps

I agree with inca, And try not to worry she will eat if she is hungry. If she does seem to be getting thin, pop her off to the vets for a general check over.

hope this helps, Good luck :)
