hi guest, if you buy a non-pedigree chocolate lab, you will certainly expect to pay less, but this is not always the case as there are a lot of people cashing in on the chocolate colour and their appeal.
Make sure you choose a good breeder who rears their puppies with love and care, who is prepared to let you ask lots of questions, visit the premises etc, and who health tests their dogs, has a reputable standing and will be at the end of the phone should a problem ever arise in the future - you may have to pay more but it will be worth it in the long run.
Its worth noting that price isnt allways an indicator of value for money.
good luck in your search, :-) perhaps some of the lab breeders on here could help you if you provide your area/contact details etc.

You have to ask yourself why a supposed pedigree dog is not registered Guest. Really, you have no idea whether an unregistered dog is a genuine Labrador or not. Added to that, if the parents are not registered what prospect is there that they have been health tested? Certainly they could not be hip or elbow scored. My advice is don't touch an unregistered Labrador with a barge pole.
As to price, there is absolutely no reason why any colour Labrador should be any different price to any other colour, it cost exactly the same amount to produce! So saying, because so many silly people are prepared to pay stupid money just for a colour I'm sadly afraid you will find them quite a bit dearer.
Be very careful where you go for your puppy. Because of the big money involved in Chocolate Labradors they attract the very worst kind of breeder and a large percentage of them I would not buy a gerbil from!
Sorry to be a bit of a damper, John
