Are blackberries likely to cause any problems in a dogs diet? Spice has taken to picking a few for herself on our walks  she only seems to go for the ripe ones on the lower branches and she only takes about 6 or so,then she continues to walk or play.
The first time we saw her picking them we were totally surprised and hubby said the next thing we need to teach her is to pick them then to drop them into a container for us :D

They should be fine, very nutritious too.  Bess always picks her own in our fields and when I go blackberrying. :)

Sure they wont, mine strip the bushes and the rose hips, mind you I would not want anything that grew below the 3' level :) Have to say when I visited a wolf sanctuary we were walking in the field with them and they were stripping the blackberries as fast as they could too, so guess it is part of the normal canine diet.

My two also enjoy picking their own blackberries, but last season my greedy madam must have swallowed some unripe berries still attached to the bramble. She was in a lot of pain as the bramble passed through her complete with thorns the next day. Not a pleasant experience.

I love to watch them sort the ripe ones from a bunch of berries in stages of ripeness, they are better at it than I am, the only thing I worry about is their feet.

We've got a wild strawberry plant in our garden and Alfie checks it out everyday to see if there's any new ripe ones.  I've given up trying to beat him to it so it's now his plant!

Bonnie was the same with my cherry tomatos - now there's plenty of them, she seems to have had her fill :(
