Topic Dog Boards / General / Endorsements?

I have a question here..

We got Leo our sheltie who is now 7 months from a good breeder, had his health checks for CEA etc and he's great............we were looking for a pup and contacted a breeder who had none available but gave our number to the breeder we eventually got him off. There had been 6 pups in the litter, 4 girls and 2 boys and she just had 2 boys left, although had decided she wanted to keep the other for showing.
The reason the two boys were left is purely that she wanted to keep one for showing and was deciding which one.

Anyway to my point - looking on his kennel club certificate he has no endorsements and just wondered why this might be? - Possibly because she wanted to keep one for showing and breeding and had not decided which one?

Just looking for reasons why people would not use endorsements. We have no plans to breed him, he's our pet and we don't know the first thing about breeding (despite the hundreds of people who see him and say "oh he's gorgeous are you going to breed him")

Why don't you ask the breeder?

Just because they don't use endorsements, I expect :D - and no, it doesn't mean they're a bad breeder.  Some people give the impression on here that if a puppy offered to a buyer is not endorsed, the breeder is not reputable, and that is certainly not the case in my breed.

I don't know if it is more common in some breeds, but I don't think I've heard of anyone in Rough Collies using the breeding endorsement, although I'm ready to be corrected.  Several, including me, use the export one.  However, I don't consider us to be a particularly commercial breed.

Will be interesting to hear from people in other breeds as to how commonly they're used.  I would assume they're used regularly in breeds which have an issue with 'cash crop' breeders, and where there are major health issues.

Is this a naive view?

Hi,

I intend to endorse any litters I have. This however does not stop people potentially getting it overturned by the Kennel Club without breeders consent and it has been done on several occasions.

What is needed is stricter rules from the Kennel club over endorsing, but how they set out to achieve this would be questonable.

So some breeders think if someone wanted to breed they could anyway if they were not bothred about paper work and we all know some people will  pay stupid amounts of money even for pups without papers and if you do endorse pedigrees it istill not 1oo% guranteed this could not be overturned, but at the moment its the best we have.

You just hope you picked new homes to best of your ability for the best interest for your pups, you endorse and carefully explain about this and hopefully this is sufficient.

I its quite common in Golden Retrievers fo have pedigrees endorsed for breeding and export.

But stricter rules are needed.
