How old would my puppy have to be before I could show her???
She is 8 wks and I just wanted to know when the best time to start training her would be.
I would only want to do for fun and wondered what the best show would be to start at.

My puppy is 13 weeks old and we started ringcraft classes last week as soon as she had finished her course of injections :)

You can enter her into shows when she is 6 months old.

There are 3 MAIN types of show ...Companion Shows are advertised in petshops, local papers and the dog papers (Dog World and Our Dogs), anyone can enter these shows and you enter on the day. Then there are OPEN shows , advertised in dog papers, you need to ring up or write to the secretary of the show and get an entry form ..these are for pedigree dogs and have different classes depending on sex of dog, age and experience. Finally there are Champ shows, also advertised in dog papers, same route, get entry form and fill out etc etc. Champ shows cost more than open shows and are generally quite a bit larger

Pretty sure that if you go to ringcraft classes, they will help with info about local shows :)

you can start going to ringcraft as soon as pup is allowe out after vaccinations.
Try to get pups handled by other people and try to get pups used to standing as you run your hands over them so they become used to it.

There are also Limit shows ( where you need to be a member of the Club to enter)

Are you not going to show your older pup?

:)

Ronnie the older pup is absolutely gorgeous, evryone comments on how handsome he is and what a good staff, He is a pedigree as are both dogs but poor Ronnie has got a screw tail bless him, he looks like a piglet!!

Could I still show him or would it be a waste of time?

Rosie on the other hand doesn't from what I have read have any major faults!! other than being abit of a nut case!

There is nothing to prevent you from showing him at companion shows but if he has a fault like a screw tail it might be wiser not to "throw your money" away by entering open shows etc- bearing in mind the standard calls for a tail like a pump handle

get pup used to you looking at their teeth while she is still really young :)
and try to get others to go all over her so shes not fazed by it

I know it seems impossible with a mad staff, but try getting her to stand.  When she stays still for just a moment, give her a treat.  When you try it again, make her stand a little bit longer and then treat her again and so on.   The best tip we got was not pushing her bum down when training her to sit, coz as soon as a judge touches their back they will automatically sit down.  There is a really good Champion SBT show in Woking on Sunday 24th Oct.  It's run by Southern Counties SBT Society and it's well worth going to if you're thinking of showing in the future to pick up some tips.  Good luck.
